The JG Craig Competition forms an essential part of the Cricket Victoria Pathway model. The aim of ‘Pathways’ is to create great player experience and provide as many opportunities as possible to play cricket in the highest standard competitions and experience quality facilities. Players can participate in VMCU Carnival games, WJ Dowling & JG Craig Competitions in the one season.

 

Clubs must endeavour to attract ‘top age’ Under 15 players to the Craig Competition as it is CV preference for players to play in their age group to maximise progression, opportunity and leadership opportunities. Girls wishing to play in the J G Craig Competition must be under the age of 16 at September 1 of the current season. And will be picked on merit

Playing Conditions

Playing hours will be 10.00 a.m. to 4.20 p.m. with a luncheon adjournment of 40 minutes, taking place from 12.50 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. Should an innings terminate after 12.20 p.m., and before 12.50 p.m., the luncheon adjournment shall be taken forthwith. Players will be supplied Lunch by the Endeavour Hills Cricket Club at each match and be given their own drink bottle that they must bring to each match

At the conclusion of each match players will have a recovery period which includes a mandatory icebath with recovery shower and also may include a POOL recovery session (depending on Match location)…Note Home games will be at Dandenong Aquatic Centre. Players must pack a towel and change of clothes and bathers for each match in kit bag.

In all matches if the innings of the side batting first shall be compulsorily closed on completion of 45 overs, whereupon lunch shall be taken. Batsman do not have to retire at any score. They can maximise their innings at all times. When the completion of the 45 overs occurs after the time scheduled for lunch, the luncheon adjournment shall be reduced accordingly with play to recommence at the scheduled time for resumption, and only then provided there has been a minimum luncheon break of 30 minutes.

No bowler shall be permitted to bowl more than nine overs in any innings. In addition no bowler, either fast or slow, shall be permitted to bowl more than five consecutive overs in any innings. The break between spells shall be a minimum of 30 minutes, including scheduled intervals, and any unscheduled breaks in play. A bowler who has bowled less than five consecutive overs, may resume bowling prior to completion of the break, but this shall be considered as an extension of the same spell and the maximum spell limit of five overs shall apply.

No one shall field closer to the batsman than half the pitch’s length from the batsman’s middle stump. With the exception of those in the slips quadrant and the wicket-keeper. Helmets Requirements Players must wear a cricket helmet with faceguard when – batting and wicketkeeping

About JG Craig Shield

Each season, the J.G. Craig Shield brings together 32 VSDCA clubs, each fielding a team of the most promising U15 players. Matches are played on professionally prepared turf wickets, providing a high-quality cricketing experience for all participants. The competition takes place in January each year, making it a highlight of the summer cricket season.
